Intro
I'm Abdullah Khan, a film editor and director based in Toronto. I cut narrative shorts, documentaries, and music videos for filmmakers, agencies, and artists worldwide.
Most editors are handed footage and asked to assemble it. I approach a cut the way I approach a script; looking for where the story actually lives, which is often not where the shot list said it would be. That instinct comes from directing: I've spent years on the other side of the edit, watching my own material fail to say what I meant it to, and learning what a cut can rescue and what it can't.

Structure, pacing, and performance. I'm comfortable with sparse, dialogue-light material where the edit carries most of the emotional weight.
A Clay Horse
A dialogue-free short about a 12-year-old Afghan refugee who communicates through a radio. Seven awards and selections at Oscar-qualifying festivals including Odense International Film Festival and Tirana International Film Festival, where it received the Best Divergent Minds' Award. A film built almost entirely in the edit — with no dialogue to lean on, every beat had to land through image, sound, and duration.
Karachi Cartography
A short documentary on the first comprehensive socio-climatic map of Karachi. The project won the Young Climate Visionary Prize 2023 and has been presented at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
Saint & The Sea
As a storm approaches their coastal village, a fisherman’s family prepares for the departure of their 14-year-old daughter.
